history: Here is a link to the wiki.

Pre-series: Lenalee Lee remembers nothing before her parent's death. When she was very young (around five years old), her mother and father were killed by an akuma. This left her older brother, Komui, to care for her. Since they were the only family each other had left, their bond was very strong. He was her world.

That all changes when the Black Order finds her.

You see, Lenalee is an Accommodator for Innocence. Accommodators are rare and limited. If you are compatible with Innocence, you can fight and kill akuma - you're invaluable. So the Order whisks her away from her brother against her will. She was only about six years old.

For three years Lenalee is held at Headquarters without her brother. It's a living hell to her. Though she receives a bit of respite when Kanda Yuu joins, it's not enough. She is always begging and pleading with The Order to release her. She tries running away, but is caught. By the time she's nine years old Lenalee even attempts suicide. Whether the attempt was unsuccessful or she was simply caught in time, doesn't matter matter - after that Lenalee is tied down to a bed and put under constant surveillance.

This is the lowest point of her life. All she wants is to go home and be with her brother again. Confined and tied to that bed, Lenalee spends much of her time simply begging and crying to be let go. HQ fears she will go completely insane.

Then, what seems like a miracle occurs. Her brother, Komui Lee, comes to her side and tells her everything will be alright. He has joined the Black Order just to be with her, so they can stay together. With her beloved brother at her side, Lenalee is able to pull herself out of her depression and finally accept her life in The Order.

Once Komui joins, things start looking up for her. Though she always sticks close to Komui, Lenalee begins to make Headquarters her home. She befriends the other Exorcists, and quickly becomes attached - they become her family. By age twelve she is helping out in the Science Division, and even becomes the Chief's (Komui's) assistant.

When Lenalee is fourteen, Lavi joins The Order. The future Bookman becomes one of her most treasured friends, along with Kanda.

Intro Arc/Ghost of Mateel Arc: At age sixteen Lenalee meets Allen Walker. She is the one to show him around, and help him get settled in. After Allen and Kanda return from a mission, Lenalee saves Allen from her brother's crazy invention: a robot named 'Komrin'.

The Rewinding Town Arc: Shortly after the Komrin incident, Lenalee and Allen are sent on a mission together. They discover a young woman named Miranda Lotto, who is also compatible with Innocence. During this mission Allen, Lenalee, and Miranda are caught by Rhode Kamelot. Together they fight against Rhode and her akuma. When Allen attempts to save a self-destructing akuma, Lenalee stops him. He immediately becomes enraged at her, and demands to know why she stopped him. Lenalee promptly slaps Allen and replies "because we're friends!"

Though Allen doesn't realize it just yet, he has already become part of Lenalee's 'world'. Her 'world' is made up of all her loved ones. In her own words, "to me the death of one companion...is like the whole world getting destroyed."

They finish the fight, though Rhode Kamelot escapes. Together Lenalee, Allen, and Miranda return to HQ for some much needed rest and healing.

Since learning that the akuma have been hunting the generals, Lenalee, Allen, Lavi, and Bookman are all assigned a mission: find Cross Marian. During their search for Cross, Lenalee ends up admitting to Allen that she hates him for being so self-sacrificing. Allen then apologizes for acting so recklessly. The two grow closer.

The Vampire from the Old Castle Arc/Edo Arc: As they continue to search for Cross (now with a new Exorcist on their team: Arystar Krory), they end up at sea. Allen and Lenalee come across Suman Dark (a fellow Exorcist) destroying a village. He has become a Fallen One. This causes Lenalee a good deal of anxiety: she recalls memories of witnessing a Fallen One being experimented on (having Innocence forced upon him) when she was younger. Lenalee and Allen try to save Suman, but are unable to - Allen is absorbed by Suman while Lenalee is forced to leave him behind in order to save a young girl.

Later Lenalee and Lavi look for Allen, only to come across a blood-soaked spot on the ground. Timcanpy is found nearby, and had recorded what appeared to be the destruction of Allen's Innocence by another Noah: Tyki Mikk. She learns that Allen exceeded his limit during his attempt to rescue Suman.

Heartbroken, she returns to port with Lavi. Soon after she gets news that Allen was found, and is being held at the China branch so he can recuperate. Lenalee requests to go see him, but is denied. She is deeply depressed as they sail away, continuing the journey.

But life goes on. Lavi does his best to snap Lenalee out of her depression. Lenalee spends some time bonding with Anita, a supporter of the Black Order.

Then trouble strikes again. Many akuma - including a level three akuma! - attack the ship. Lenalee doesn't hesitate to go off and face the level three akuma on her own, despite Lavi's warnings.

This is a big battle for Lenalee. She uses her Dark Boots with maximum invocation. Her long hair is burned off from the intense friction in the air from her attacks. Nonetheless, she defeats the akuma, nearly dying in the process.

When Lavi later goes to find Lenalee, he finds a modified akuma holding a large crystal with Lenalee inside: her Innocence had taken on that form in order to save her life. The Exorcists begin to wonder if Lenalee's Innocence is the 'Heart' - the one they have been looking for.

Back at the ship, the rest of the crew are trying to recover from the attack. Lenalee and the other Exorcists say good-bye to Anita and her crew; they must continue their journey to Edo. This parting is especially painful: besides the Exorcists, only three sailors survived the attacks. This battle has changed Lenalee not only physically but mentally as well - her heart breaks as Miranda deactivates her Innocence, and the less fortunate sailors all die.

When Lenalee and the others arrive in Edo, she is basically useless. She can no longer use her Innocence, and her legs are so damaged from the battle with the level three akuma that she can barely walk. She was unable to do anything as her friends began the battle of Edo.

During the battle The Earl unleashes a huge blast upon Edo, and Lenalee's Innocence protects her once more by encasing her in crystal. While the other Exorcists are engaged in combat, The Earl tries to get his hands on the crystal. Luckily Allen appears, and prevents The Earl from harming her.

Noah's Ark Arc: Immediately after that The Earl creates a vortex, and sucks Lenalee into the ark. Her comrades all follow.

The Earl informs them that in exactly three hours, the ark will blow up.

More fighting occurs, and the Exorcists manage to both defeat the Noah and successfully conquer the ark and the egg.

Invasion of HQ Arc: Back at HQ, everyone tries to recover from their latest injuries. Hevlaska removes Lenalee's Innocence only to find that it not only changed into a black liquid, but it also dropped synchronization - down to 10%. At this point no one believes Lenalee can use Innocence anymore.

This changes when a level four akuma invades HQ.

Lenalee and Lavi are locked in the hospital ward while the other Exorcists battle. Lenalee feels terrible, and asks to try and synchronize with her Innocence again. She is denied this request.

Her chance comes soon when things go from bad to worse. Rouvelier - the man responsible for imprisoning her when she was so young, taking away her brother, and overall traumatizing her - barges into the hospital ward and orders Lenalee to try and synchronize with her Innocence.

Lenalee approaches Hevlaska, and Lenalee begs her Innocence to re-sync with her. She begs God to grant her the ability to help her friends, and says that she no longer hates Him or Innocence. Lenalee resolved to fully sync with her Innocence.

Her Innocence comes to her in liquid form. She drinks it. Suddenly blood begins pouring out of her body through cross-shaped cuts on her ankles. The blood begins to coat her legs, and becomes her new Dark Boots. With her brand new Dark Boots she helps to defeat the level four akuma.

Later, when Komui inspects her new Dark Boots (which turns to red crystal anklets once deactivated), he states it was an evolved Equipment-type. It was declared to be Crystal-type.

After the attack, The Order must move Headquarters. Shortly after Lenalee learns that Allen is 'the 14th'.

Third Exorcists Arc: It's clear that although Lenalee is shocked over this news, she is not afraid of Allen. Just worried for him. Though she would like discuss this '14th' business with him, they never really have a chance - Howard Link was assigned to constantly watch over Allen.

Lenalee is then sent on a mission to Greece (along with Timothy Hearst, Koushi, and Klaud Nine), and is seen battling a dragon-shaped Noah. She and Timothy watch as the Dark Matter from Alma Karma's cells cause Koushi to mutate. Several Exorcists end up having to kill the Third Exorcists, and the Noah announce that the 14th has been awakened in Allen due to Kanda, and that Allen will become 'a seed of destruction to the Order.' Lenalee begins crying.

Seed of Destruction Arc: Lenalee sits with the Order for a meal, and is comforted by some of the scientists as she worries about her missing friends and Allen, who is now in jail.

When Lenalee learns that Allen broke out of prison, she quickly searches for him and confronts him. She tells him that if he leaves, they will have to fight each other. Allen hugs Lenalee and reassures her that he loves her and everybody else at the Order; that the Order is his true home.

personality: As long as she has loved ones around her, Lenalee Lee is resilient. Once her brother joined The Order to be with her, she managed to pick herself up and move on despite the trauma she had experienced. She made Headquarters her home, formed bonds with the other Exorcists and people who worked there, and found a way to be happy. Lenalee adapted.

Speaking of her brother, before I describe more of her personality, I would like to say a few things about Komui and how he affects Lenalee.

Komui Lee makes up a huge part of her world. Due to their past (their parents dying when Lenalee was little, Komui practically raising her himself), Lenalee being taken and their inevitable separation, his sacrifice in order to be with her - that's a lot for anyone to go through. The Lee siblings are all that's left of their family, and despite Komui's frequent tantrums and over-the-top displays of brotherly love, Lenalee's exasperation, and their bickering, they are as close as siblings can be. Although Lenalee loves having her brother in her life, she can't help but feel guilty - and responsible - for him having been dragged into the Order and the war.

Now, back to explaining the rest of her personality!

One of Lenalee's strongest traits is her compassion and concern for others. After all, the people around her are her world. Lenalee is fiercely devoted to her brother and friends and will never hesitate to defend them. This doesn't mean she only pays attention to those people - Lenalee also happens to be quite social. She greets most everyone with a smile and does her best to make them feel at ease - after all, she knows all too well what it feels like to be frightened and alone. All in all, for the most part she treats others how she would expect to be treated.

Another important thing about Lenalee? She never wants to be a burden to others. She isn't one to rely on the people around her for cheering up; rather, she will give herself pep talks. She will internalize things in order to keep others from worrying, but not to a huge degree. Her reasoning is this: she must be strong and pull her own weight so that she can protect herself and her world, and so that her brother, friends and comrades won't have to worry about looking after her in battle.

Now, just because she's nice and doesn't want to burden others doesn't mean Lenalee is a pushover. If you really want to get her going, then do something stupid or reckless! She will punch someone if she sees them acting like a self-sacrificing moron.

Lenalee is very mature and responsible...but she is still a teenager. She cries easily and often, and not only from sadness. Anger, joy, and fear will move her to tears as well. Though she does her best to keep others from having to worry about her, she loathes being alone. And if she wakes up from one of her frequent nightmares in the middle of the night, she sometimes can't fight the urge to run to someone she trusts for comfort.

After all this writing, I feel obligated to add that Lenalee isn't a totally serious character; she's more...emotional. (She has a lot of feelings!!) When she has time off, she tries her best to enjoy doing normal, fun things, and encourages those around her to do the same.

abilities/powers: Lenalee's abilities as an Exorcist come from being an Accommodator. An Accommodator is a person who is able to synchronize with and use the Anti-Akuma weapon known as Innocence. Her Innocence comes in the form of her Dark Boots. When activated, her Dark Boots give her super speed, super strength in her legs, the ability to walk on water, and the ability to "use sound waves as foot holds" (she can basically hover in air.)

In the beginning of the series her Innocence manifested itself as equipment type. Later on she pushed her Innocence beyond what it could handle, causing it to turn into a crystal that surrounded her in order to protect her. It was first thought she was no longer compatible with it, as she could no longer use it. However, when HQ was attacked, Lenalee begged her Innocence to synchronize with her again, and her Innocence responded - this time it evolved into a "crystal-type".

Lenalee's Innocence is the first known to evolve, and as of chapter 215, only her and Kanda possess crystal-type Innocence.

Even without her Innocence, Lenalee is naturally fast and agile, and she is a good fighter.

Her weaknesses include Komui, her friends, and comrades. Without them, she would most likely lose the will to live. Certain memories from her childhood resurface once in a while, and they can terrify her or paralyze her with dread. Whenever this happens, she manages to 'snap out of it' after some time.

[Lenalee is seated at a table with the device in front of her. Even though it's apparent she isn't completely comfortable with the thing just yet, she does her best to appear at ease.]

Hello. I wanted to take a moment to properly introduce myself. My name is Lenalee Lee, and I'm an Exorcist for the Black Order.

[She pauses, and for a moment there almost seems to be a hint of sadness about her. But then she smiles, and it disappears.]

It's kind of complicated...actually, really complicated, so I'll keep it simple: Exorcists fight akuma. The Millennium Earl creates akuma from the souls of humans who have lost loved ones, blame God, and wish them back to life.

[Lenalee looks serious.]

If someone ever approaches you with the promise of bringing a loved one back to life, do not accept it. It's a trick. The Millennium Earl is a liar, and by accepting that offer many lives - too many - have been destroyed.

[Her voice now turns soft, though it's still firm. She takes a deep breath before continuing.]

I don't believe The Earl, any of his followers, or akuma are here. But I am all too aware that they could show up at any time, which is why I would like to have a word with whatever sort of law enforcement there might be in the city. In the event that those who I've mentioned from my world arrive, I would ask that I be the one to handle the situation.

[Lenalee smiles again, and this time it's a bit apologetic.]

I'm sorry for going on like that. Even though this isn't my world, I still feel that it's my responsibility to take precautions and warn others about any potential [...] complications.

[Now she hesitates, unsure of how to end things.]

...Like I said, I would like to talk with anyone from law enforcement. Also! Since I've only been here a couple days, any extra information on the city would be helpful. A lot of people have already told me the basics, and again - thank you.

[She flashes the device a quick smile before reaching over and turning it off.]

third person sample: The sky always evoked mixed feelings for Lenalee.

With her Dark Boots, Lenalee was able to fling herself easily into the sky. Whether she was training or in the midst of battle, things always seemed strangely peaceful up there. The sound of air rushing past her body, the feel of her hair whipping against her skin, the sight of the ground beneath her feet all but vanishing...these were all stolen moments of pure bliss. Even when she had so greatly resented her Innocence, Lenalee couldn't help but be thankful for those small blessings.

But along with all those wonderful feelings, every now and again a certain forbidden, exhilarating thought would creep into her mind while she was suspended in air, about to return to earth. If she ever chose to, Lenalee could simply change direction and disappear. After all, who would be able to catch her? It would be so easy, she sometimes thought, to leap into the air and climb higher, and higher, and higher...

At the same time, the sky was an ever-present reminder of freedom that she could never quite have. Anyone who knew her at all, would know that Lenalee could never simply take off like that. Her beloved brother, her friends, her whole world lied within The Black Order. It was that world - her world - which kept her tethered to this one, and kept her from simply flying away some days.

Oh, but now it was more than just her world which kept her from flying away: this world - the City, as they called it - had a sky even Lenalee's Dark Boots could not penetrate. Though she hated to admit it, the thought actually frightened her...made her feel claustrophobic.

We're all trapped, she would start to think, a familiar feeling of dread overtaking her. There's no way out, I miss Brother, I don't want to die here so far away from everyone else -!

But she would snap herself out of it, and promptly scold herself. No! I can't think like that! Be strong. We'll get out of here, and be back home soon. Just be patient, Lenalee.

"Be patient...and be strong," she murmured out loud to herself. Lenalee would be both those things.

And she would not - could not - let herself fall apart.
